Pat Mashek
After a long and courageous battle with colorectal cancer over the last twelve years, Pat Mashek passed away on July 21, 2014 at the age of 63.
Starting out at GAB Business Services, in 1978 Pat took a job with Beisser Lumber Company and it became his home for the last 36 years. For 19 years he served as Beisser’s Vice President and General Manager, and nine years as the President, until his retirement on June 30, 2014.
Pat will always be remembered for his humility and integrity, but most of all for his extraordinary sense of humor. He always had a smile on his face, and was more than willing to share his time and resources with others.
He worked hard, but played hard as well, and traveled all over the world over the years. And as a University of Iowa graduate, he supported his Iowa Hawks as a 40+ year season ticket holder for Iowa Football.
Pat was a dedicated family man and celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary in June with wife Darlene, his college sweetheart. Together they had 3 daughters, Jennifer, Jody, and Carrie of whom he was very proud.
He was also a man of faith serving in several capacities at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a member for over 40 years.
For those who knew him and worked with him, Pat will be remembered as a wonderful man and will be greatly missed, but his contributions will continue to benefit so many in the years to come.
Any memorial contributions may go to the family for distribution among three nonprofit organizations where his daughters try to make a positive impact. They are the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, the American Friends of Service Committee Immigrants’ Voice Program, and the Shine Centre of South Africa.
