In Fixr’s annual industry report, experts reveal biophilic design as a top design trend and color is making an impactful comeback.

In 2025, we can expect to see shifts in trends as home design continues to adapt and evolve to homeowners’ needs. And it would seem that color is making a comeback as people look to create a home that matches their personality. Whether that means more emphasis on integrating nature or completely color-drenching a room, this report explores the latest top trends.

To get an idea of what exactly interior design and color trends are set to look like in the coming year, Fixr surveyed 67 top experts in the industry, including experienced interior designers and home stagers.

The statistics featured in this report are taken from their responses. In many cases, they were asked to choose more than one option to give a broader sense of top trends. So take a look at this industry insider knowledge to know what to expect from interior design and color in 2025.

Interior Design Trends

Integrating nature into interior design is the most popular design trend

According to 60% of experts, one of the standout trends in 2025 is integrating nature into interior design. Natural elements juxtaposed with interior environments make the connection between indoors and outdoors. It’s been 5 years since Covid, but the impact remains. When asked how color will play a role, Ellen Kennon, Owner of Ellen Kennon, says “Nature-inspired palettes emphasizing earthy tones like terracotta, deep greens, and soft blues, reflecting a growing desire for connection with nature.” Kate Smith, Founder and Principal Designer, k.Smith | x, agrees; “We have always loved breaking the barriers between the indoors and outdoors, pulling color from the natural surroundings.” As we’ll see later in this report, greens are also a popular choice as a soothing backdrop in home offices.

Curves

Another top trend this year is curves, say 36% of industry insiders. Curves are becoming more and more popular as we move away from more rigid furniture and features. Rounded edges allow for more fluidity in home design, tying in with nature as they bring a more organic feel to a space.

Multi-Functional Spaces

Multi-functional spaces are set to continue to be popular, and 31% of experts agree. As homeowners look to continue personalizing their homes to suit their needs, multifunctional rooms allow for freedom. As mentioned, the result of Covid continues, with many still working remotely, making home office spaces essential. Combining guest rooms, playrooms, offices, and exercise spaces, for example, loosens the restriction on typical home layouts.

Cozy Minimalism

27% of pros say cozy minimalism is a leading design trend for 2025. While minimalism is typically cold, cozy minimalism keeps a simple design aesthetic but with a warmer touch and more flexibility to be inviting, playful, and elegant.

Maximalism and Bold Statements

Maximalism and bold statements are becoming increasingly popular, with 25% of experts naming them a top trend. As Anna Gibson, Owner and Chief Designer, AKG Design Studio, rightly points out “2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for interior design, with a focus on bold colors, natural materials, and sustainable practices.” And speaking of sustainability, 21% say that it’ll be a big interior design trend this year.

Color Trends

Color drenching tops color trends

Other industry experts agree, with 49% citing warm neutrals as a top color trend this year. This is closely followed by 48% who say dark, earthy greens are set to take center stage. Both hues are reflective of design incorporating nature, creating soothing spaces. As Leslie Carothers, Founder of Savour Partnership, points out “In 2025, people want to be surrounded by colors that lift them up and bring them a feeling of calm, joy, and safety.”

Homeowners’ Top Color Choices

34% of pros say deep, jewel tones and rustic browns, grays, and taupes are homeowners’ top color choices this year. This mimics the overriding trends in 2025 of nature and boldness in home design. Gloribell Lebron, CEO and Principal Designer, G. Lebron Interiors comments; “People are a bit more daring in terms of color. They are more open to experimenting with dark tones to create an ambiance or are looking for that new warm white that will add just the right dose of character to any room.”

Experts’ favorite colors of the year by major brands

It’s always exciting to find out what the major paint brands name as their color of the year. These colors often indicate where trends are heading in the coming year. We asked experts to tell us which one is their favorite.

22% of experts opted for Truffle by STAINMASTER as their favorite color of the year. Darker colors are definitely trending, and this deep brown hue fits the bill. It’s bold, dramatic, yet elegant. “We’re seeing a continued shift towards rich, earthy tones that promote a sense of calm and comfort in the home,” says Brooke Lang, Founder and Principal Designer of Brooke Lang Design.

Not surprisingly, second place with 18% goes to a very similar color by C2 named Raku. Another earthy brown that will have a big impact on any room with its deep tone. Continuing the daring dark theme, 12% of pros chose Hammered Black by Krylon. Tamra Pfeifer, Owner of Set the Stage Interiors, says “It will be an exciting year for color with rich, warm shades alongside, grounding neutrals
