Terry Doling

The local home building industry lost a longtime friend and advocate when Terry Doling passed away unexpectedly on March 18th while visiting family in Texas.

Terry graduated from the University of Iowa in 1981 and went on to work for 25 years for Payless Cashways. He spent the last 14 years as the Showroom Manager for Showplace Kitchens in Urbandale overseeing a dedicated, full service staff of designers. In his position for the company, he was an intelligent, detail oriented, and patient professional that was always ready with a smile and willing to help others.

He was a proud and active member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Des Moines and served in many leadership roles including as a member of the Board of Directors, as well as the Chairman and a dedicated team partner of the Home & Remodeling Show committee for many years.

Terry worked hard but he loved harder. He loved camping, biking, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and his family. Terry was a devoted husband, father, brother, and Papa. He will be greatly missed by all lucky enough to have met him. He is survived by his high-school sweetheart and wife of almost 37 years Barbara Doling, son Mike Doling, daughter Kelli (Andy) Katzman, granddaughter Olivia Katzman, daughter Alissa Doling, as well as sisters Patricia Doling and Susan (Larry) Seaton.
